Yasiin Bey, formerly known as Mos Def, just announced his retirement from the music industry.
Bey is currently still detained in South Africa after trying to leave the country with a “world passport.” He dropped an audio message on Kanye West’s website to let everyone know what’s going on in his situation across the globe.
He starts off with a freestyle saying, “I committed no crime, why is the state wasting my time…” then goes on to spill what really happens with his arrest, conspiracy theories, and announces his pledge to leave the music industry.
Bey also says in his message that “political motivations” are to blame for his circumstances. “I haven’t broken any law but I’m being treated like a criminal,” he adds. Bey ends on his note saying he’s done with the business and retiring as of today but that he will be releasing his final album this year.
