Last month, A Tribe Called Quest released their sixth album “We Got It From Here… Thank You 4 Your Service”, it seems that album won’t be the last time you hear from the members of a Tribe.
Even though Q-Tip said that was their last album — especially following the death of Tribe’s Malik “Phife Dawg” Taylor in March, his recent interview on BBC Radio 1, he told listeners, “Stay tuned for any other incarnation, ’cause we don’t intend on stopping.”
Q-Tip states he believed that Phife would have wanted the group to continue, saying, “That was Phife’s M.O. — ‘This time we gotta do it and keep going.’ And now he’s left us with the equation of how do we do it, but we’re going to need it, and we’re going to continue.”
ATCQ hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with their comeback album, it’s the first time in more than 20 years that the Queens-based group topped the chart. While Q-Tip called the LP “closure,” he added, “I’m sure we would’ve liked to continue, but it’s just hard to imagine doing that without [Phife Dawg].”
