After a two year break, the fifteen season veteran singing competition is officially returning to television.
The show was cancelled a year ago by Fox and now has a new home network on ABC. USA Today reports the news was confirmed today (May 9), no details were provided about judges, a host, or the duration of the season, though its been speculated the show will air a shortened season next spring.
The network only has said that the show will return during the 2017-2018 season.
Although the show’s popularity declined over the past few years, it was a major contributor to pop and music culture, helping launch the careers of artists who would go on to dominate the music charts, win Grammys and even an Oscar, including Jennifer Hudson, Fantasia, Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson.
